In this painting Socrates depicts the transformed energies running in and along the human spine.

Glowing lines, representing the Ida and Pingala in the Yoga system, whirl around the golden middle axis, which is called the Sushumna energy channel.

They connect the bottom, middle and upper 8 crossing points, totalling the 24 main vertebrae.
The bottom 8 vertebrae are related to motivation, movement.
The middle set correlates to feelings, relating.
The top 8 have to do with mentality, thinking.

In the mystery schools these 3 sets are described as the bodies, the chakras, and the frequencies.
3 sets of 7 steps, each being topped by one `ruler´.

Here, each step is harmonically connected on all three levels, thus indicating full integration and harmony of all physical, emotional and mental aspects.
Now, like a charismatic aura, a radiant energy field spreads around the spinal column, and unites with the cosmos.

One could call this flowering of consciousness `Samadhi´.
